Telework Procedures for Staff

With the approval of their supervisor and the Director of Operations, staff are allowed up to two (2) telework days per week during each fall and spring semester, and to up three (3) telework days during the winter and summer terms.

2024-2025 Telework

Telework agreements for academic year 2024-2025 should be submitted to Tomiko Thomas by August 19, 2024.

Telework Guidelines

The current guidelines for staff telework are below.

Live Outside of the State of Maryland?

Any staff member who lives outside of the State of Maryland, including those who live in DC or VA, must have their telework agreement approved by our division Vice President. If this applies to you, please send the Director of Operations a draft of your telework agreement before obtaining your supervisor's signature. After submission we will facilitate obtaining the Vice President's signature.

Policy on Additional Telework Days for Staff

Staff may use up to five (5) additional telework days per academic year (August 15-May 31), beyond their standard telework allocation. Single days require the approval of the staff member's direct supervisor.

A request must be emailed to the Director of Operations, copying the supervisor, to request to use more than one additional telework day in a single week, e.g. when teleworking four or more days in one week. The request must (confidentially) state the circumstances, and must meet the following criteria:

  • The staff member must be available to work their normal hours on those days, AND
  • There's an urgent situation that precludes the staff member from coming into the office, e.g. major home repairs, OR
  • There's an urgent work-related deadline that week that necessitates the staff member continuing to work remotely rather than use leave.

If the request does not meet these criteria, then the staff member must use appropriate leave. Days spent isolating at home due to a COVID-19 diagnosis, during which the staff member feels well enough to telework, do not count toward the additional telework limit.
